Jupiter, FL: the Perfect Weekend Getaway

Stacie Ahee

If you love the West Palm Beach area but prefer a more leisurely pace to Florida living, you might want to come and explore Jupiter. With just over 60,000 residents, this coastal town offers everything that appeals to urbanites and outdoor enthusiasts alike, with access to parks, scenic waterways, upscale shopping, and fine dining.

Three perfect places to stay in Jupiter

Jupiter's multiple marinas make this the perfect destination if you sail Florida's Atlantic coastline or meandering the Intracoastal Waterway on your boat. Still, if you're flying or driving in, you'll want to make reservations at one of our most-recommended locations.

Wyndham Grand Jupiter

As its name implies, the Wyndham Grand Jupiter is among the best in local hospitality. Anyone familiar with Wyndham hotels will find that this location meets or exceeds the chain's reputation for full-amenity luxury.

The centerpiece of the Harbourside Place shopping district, the Grand Jupiter is an excellent place to stay if you want access to Jupiter's finest shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa

Set on a private beach within Jupiter's Ocean Trail Condos neighborhood, Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa is ideal for those who want a little quieter in their surroundings without sacrificing access to Jupiter's cultural, commercial, and recreational offerings. The newly-renovated rooms are friendly to pets under 30 pounds, and their people can access amenities such as a fitness center, tennis, and nearby golf courses.

Jupiter Waterfront Inn

This sleek, Old-Floridian hotel is the perfect place to bring your family or sneak away for a romantic weekend. At the Jupiter Waterfront Inn, you can lounge poolside, fish off the pier, and sink your toes in the sand in casual, resort-style comfort. Jacuzzi suites are available, and most rooms have waterfront views with private patios and balconies from which you can watch the spectacular sunrises for which Jupiter is famous.

Where to eat in Jupiter

You don't have to make a quick trip to West Palm Beach for culinary decadence. Jupiter is home to dozens of restaurants worthy of your attention, and these are just the top three that deserve an honorable mention:

The Woods Jupiter

While you're enjoying your time (and possibly your stay) in Harbourside Place, we recommend you choose Tiger Woods' eponymous restaurant, The Woods Jupiter, for a delicious brunch, lunch, happy hour, or dinner experience. Or, if you're trying to enjoy as many Jupiter restaurants as possible, you can reserve The Woods for dessert, a nightcap, and fine cigars.

Like many of Jupiter's culinary attractions, The Woods is a waterfront restaurant with spacious deck dining. Due to the popularity of Tiger Woods' flagship establishment, reservations are required.

1000 North

A Wine Spectator 2021 Award of Excellence winner and 2022 Open Table Diner's Choice selection, 1000 North is the epitome of fine dining in Jupiter. Mirroring the country club lifestyle and specializing in regional American cuisine, 1000 North is a unique occasion choice for area residents.

If you're interested in a more low-key experience, 1000 North's annex restaurant, The Tavern, offers menu items more suited to a Michelin-rated restaurant than an upscale sports bar.

Café des Artistes

If you're looking for a more casual experience with the most delectable French cuisine, Café des Artistes will serve you well. Grab some patio seating for spectacular Jupiter Yacht Club Marina views, and enjoy all that you'd expect from a Parisian cafe — if it were transplanted to a seafood paradise.

The lunch and dinner menus are so inviting that they’ll challenge you to choose when to dine at this restaurant. May we suggest you extend your stay and visit Café des Artistes twice? Reservations for dinner are good, but you can likely grab a table for a midday meal with minimal wait times.

Choose your Jupiter outdoor adventure

Bring your kayaks, trail shoes, and golf clubs to Jupiter! As much as there is to do indoors in Jupiter, the verdant South Florida landscape, waterways, and endless outdoor adventuring opportunities draw people to this beautiful community.

Visit the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary

Meet animal ambassadors representing southern Florida's abundant wildlife at the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. Wander paved and unpaved nature trails that weave through the property. Interact with animals, learn about the sanctuary's rehabilitation and conservation efforts, and why this place is the touchstone of the Jupiter community.

Paddle with The Wild & Scenic Loxahatchee River Tour

Reserve two hours of your weekend in Jupiter for a guided canoe or kayaking trip under canopies of Spanish moss. You'll be in the company of a natural historian, who will help you better appreciate the river's flora and fauna. You're likely to see American alligators among the cypresses, but that's only one species among hundreds that will make this trip both enlightening and memorable.

Tee off at Abacoa Golf Club

At Abacoa Golf Club, you'll need to book your tee time 30 days in advance, but it's worth the wait; the 18-hole course with its rolling hills and water features will challenge your skills, but you can fine-tune them at one of AGC's daily clinics. Don't want to check your golf clubs on your flight? Abacoa Golf Club will rent you a set.

Charter a sport fishing trip

Jupiter's oceanic and inland waters are famous for exciting fishing opportunities. There are too many excellent sportfishing charters to pick a favorite, but you can find your own at Fishing Booker. If you're inclined to cast a line, you can't leave Jupiter without a good fishing story.

Set sail on a sunset cruise on the Manatee Queen

If you didn't bring your boat, you can still view wildlife and scenery and take a peek at beautiful, posh waterfront properties on Jupiter island aboard the Manatee Queen. The open-deck, motor-powered catamaran is spacious enough to walk around for 360-degree views as you sip your glass of wine and toast your perfect Jupiter weekend.

Learn about the local history, have a chance to view marine mammals such as manatees and dolphins, and cruise past some of Jupiter's most pristine wetlands along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Our picks for great shopping in Jupiter

Jupiter offers all the conveniences of a mid-sized town and is peppered with independent shops and malls. Yet a few places make Jupiter's shopping experience special. Here are our recommendations for a weekend visit.

Harbourside Place and Waterfront Market

The Spanish-inspired architecture and proximity to the waterfront and marina make Harbourside Place the go-to hotspot for independent and national specialty shops. You'll find fine art, bespoke housewares, and luxury clothiers here. Make an appointment with Dreamz Hair Studio to upgrade your look or simply put things back in order after a day on the beach or paddleboarding excursion!

The Waterfront Market is one of many popular happenings at Harbourside Place, and Jupiter locals and visitors come each Sunday to shop for quality, locally-crafted artisan goods. The market offers social, economic, and environmental opportunities to the greater Jupiter community and supplies locally grown produce to residents.

Annual Jupiter festivals

The beautiful weather in Jupiter allows the town to host festivals throughout the year, though most are scheduled for early spring. Still, two of the best remain on the calendar so try to plan your trip to Jupiter to coincide with one of these events. You won't regret it!

Friends of Jupiter Beach Food & Wine Festival

Hosted by the Friends of Jupiter Beach, the Annual Jupiter Beach Food & Wine Festival brings Jupiter restaurants and foodies together to celebrate the diverse culinary tastes of the area while raising funds and awareness for Jupiter Beach conservation programs. Check their website for this year's restaurant and music lineup!

Because Jupiter Beach is dog-friendly, the organizers welcome your leashed dog, and there are even vendors that cater to pets! This is yet another reason to bring along your furry family member.

Jupiter Beer Wine & Spirits Fest

Sample Florida-crafted adult beverages while listening to local musical entertainment at the Jupiter Beer Wine & Spirits Fest at the Albacoa Town Amphitheatre. All attendees must be 21 or older, and no pets are allowed. Philanthropy is a vital part of the Jupiter community, and as a benefit for the Van Duzer Foundation, the festival raises funds for families in crisis.
